Remembering Brad Parker

Greetings Y’all!

Today, August 30th, 2021 would’ve been my old friend and music partner Brad Parkers birthday. We lost him about a year ago, much too soon! I’ve had many friends, buddies and acquaintances in my life. But Brad was the one who taught me the most about basic music theory, how to produce songs properly, gave me many tips on writing songs and more. We both have a mutual friend, Gary Young. Gary is also one of my best friends in life and in the music biz. Gary is the one who taught me how to have more fun with the music, not take it or life so seriously. He’s always telling me to “relax” and “lighten up”. Little bit of an inside joke there 😂. Between the three of us, we were either The Three Caballaros or The The Stooges. It varied depending on the day or night lol.

Back to Brad Parker for now. Brad was the first musician that that I got to play backup keyboards for in the early 1980’s. That in itself made my musical life take a wonderful turn. It taught me that even though I was always the front man when doing my own solo shows, I enjoyed being the ‘back-up guy’ equally as much if not more. I especially liked being a part of Brads songwriting process. He was a fabulous guitar player, fiddle player and could play a few other instruments as well as sing. Brad had this uncanny ability to take the simplest of tunes – mainly country tunes as he was a country music singer / songwriter / player – and turn them into these magnificent finished product songs. Whether they had just a solo acoustic guitar or a barrage of accompanying instruments, it didn’t matter. They were always top notch.

One of the terms I came up with for that style of creative song writing was a “Chevy Nova.” For those of you youngsters that don’t know what a Chevy Nova was, it was a very basic but solid car that us kids (and some adults) could build upon to make a hot race car. The car had a basic but sold proven engine, body, suspension etc.. etc… But after you built it up, you had this fabulous street hot rod. Brad’s songs were like that – simple basic foundation but could be built up or turned into something wonderful. I was already writing when I met and teamed up with Brad. But I learned from that Chevy Nova concept and subsequently wrote a lot of my stuff like that especially when I started really getting into my solo piano and instrumental writing back in the late 1990’s.

Today, I wanted to share this song I wrote for and in honor of Brad Parker on one of my latest albums about half a year ago or so. I called it, “White Mountain Sunset (Remembering Brad)”. The tune is definitely a “Chevy Nova” in that it has only two instruments in there: a piano and a violin or country fiddle sounding stringed instrument. The tune is also extremely simple just like the “Chevy Novas” Brad used to write.

So when you listen to this, picture a country music boy playing his fiddle while watching the sunset over the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire, Brad’s home.

Brad, I hope you’ve got a great band going up there in Heaven old buddy. I miss you. Gary and I both miss ya’! And for that matter, so does everyone you’ve ever touched with your music. Signed with whimsy, “Neil Diamond” 😜

MORE BIG NEWS: Two New Albums!

Greetings Y’all 😎i

EXTRA, EXTRA! Breaking news. OK, I’ll stop that. But I do have news…. I have not one but TWO new Albums out as of now. These are collective projects – meaning they’re all original songs from yours truly. They span the years from 1997 to about 2018. One is called, “Symphony For The Soul.” It’s all more of my fully orchestrated and upbeat stuff. The other album is called, “Solo Piano And Strings.” This one is geared more towards soothing and relaxing listening music. And the songs on this are also all original by me 😎.

Listen to a few samples from each new album plus an audio promo explaining a bit more about both projects.

Thanks for droppin’ by neighbor.

A Brand New Album!

Such exciting news! I’ve just released my first album / CD in a few years. It’s called, “Path Of Heart”Click HERE to go directly to the bio / purchase page. This new endeavor continues with my ongoing series of solo piano (with strings) albums. If you like the music of George Winston, Floyd Cramer, Yanni, Jim Brickman, David Lantz and similar piano instrumental artists, then I feel sure you’ll like this one. It’s a ten song collection, eight of which are my original tunes (all new – never released on any other of my albums). Two are ‘Traditional Music’ or Public Domain type pieces. Check out the video below for a few select sample song portions from the new disc. Plus hear the back story on this new project.

There’s a whole new page I’ve added to this web site called, “My Music.” Click the link atop this page to go there. All the details about this album, where and how to buy or listen and more can be found there.

NEW LIVE STREAM: “One Beautiful Night” – Coming December 23rd, 2020 – 8:00PM

Merry Christmas, Y’all 🎄

Well, I have exciting news. I’d said that if my first live stream went well and was received OK I’d consider doing more. Guess what? Thanks to you, the listeners / watchers, it went over incredibly well and was received wonderfully! Not bragging, just expressing my gratitude and delight! Sooooooo……. I have another very special, meaningful live stream coming up on December 23rd, 2020 at 8:00PM Eastern Time. I call it, “One Beautiful Night.”

The title has its roots in a song I wrote for Christmas about 20 years ago. The subject of the live stream is the reading of the greatest story ever told – “The Christmas Story.” There are four different narrators helping out with this one. I’ll be the musician guy interspersing music between narrations.

This 20 minute prerecorded production will air on YouTube (versus just Facebook like the first one). This way, everyone will be able to tune in and watch – don’t have to be a Facebook friend of mine.

The YouTube Live Stream link for this one is as follows:

I thank you in advance for reading and watching this quick video on the event. Hope to see y’all there!

My Live Stream Christmas Mini Concert Now On YouTube!

Seasons Greetings, Y’all 🎄

Well, I’m so happy, proud and more than anything RELIEVED that my Live Stream Christmas Mini Concert on Sunday night, December 6th, 2020 went well. Actually, way better than I expected. Thank you to everyone that took the time out of their schedule to sit and watch / listen to this little Christmas Mini Concert. And thanks for all the kind words as well.

The reason for this going live on YouTube is quite simple: Because so many folks asked for it so they could watch again. My plan was to just broadcast it live once and that’s all she wrote. Well, I guess I was wrong. I didn’t expect as strong a response to it all. But also (and this is sorta my fault – I’m still a little new to live streaming) because I chose to stream this on my Facebook Timeline. Translated, that limited it to only my Facebook friends. Had I put it on my “Mike Thomas Music” Facebook Page, everything woulda been fine as THAT page is public. Oh well. Live and learn I always say. So by putting it on YouTube, now it can be viewed and shared by you or anyone that sees it and wants to show it to others (and please do by the way … the more publicity on this, the better for everyone in the grand scheme).

If I have my way, there’ll definitely be more live streams similar to this from yours truly doing my musical performing, storytelling, interactions and more. And like I say, I’ll broadcast those upcoming streams on my Mike Thomas Music (public) Facebook Page. You can find that page HERE by the way.

Once more time, my profound thanks and appreciation to all those who attended. Hope to see Y’all soon. For now, continued Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

Peace On Earth – Mike T 🎄
